Why Are Luxury Brands So Expensive?
Unlike fast-fashion or cheap brands, luxury fashion brands use materials that are natural, durable and long-lasting. For example, Versace is famous for making their own textiles, and both Louis Vuitton and Hermes use natural leather in their products.
Many top luxury fashion brands use items that are made of natural cotton, silk, wool, or linen, just like the quiet luxury brand Loro Piana and Brunello cucinelli, other additions might be made to the brand item like being encrusted with diamonds and other precious stones.
Handbagholic wrote an article about Louis Vuitton quality where it said "Louis Vuitton’s reputation for high-quality craftsmanship can be seen through the materials and durability of each piece. The bags are meant to be used often without showing signs of wear and tear. This is further exemplified through vintage pieces, which can be years old and still look brand new."
Status symbol
The status symbol conferred on the customers of luxury fashion brand keeps the price of the brand items expensive and unattainable. Some brands would prefer to associate with a certain class of people which would mostly be the rich when it comes to luxury fashion brands.
Brands like Gucci, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Loro Piana mostly focus on materials and trends that would mostly be demanded or appreciated by rich individuals and due to the fact that some of these materials might not be easily accessible or cheap, it will most likely lead to the cost of the brand items being expensive.
Exclusivity
Luxury fashion brands receive a certain level of exclusivity due to it not being available to everyone and this is possible because sometimes the materials used by the brand in creating their products are rare and might be a limited release.
There is also a price set on creativity, in this case, the designer of a certain outfit or brand item would want to place a high value on their creations or designs and also reduce the number of people that have access to those designs just to maintain the value on it. For items that are rare it is expected that they will treated exclusively and the owners will have something that no one has and that will have to come at a cost.
